September 2005

Quinn and I finally succumbed to our parents’ pleading and gave them a good night sleep. I slept 10 hours last night and Quinn slept 8! We haven’t decided yet if we are going to continue this goodwill, but we just may…

WIDE awake today,
Cooper

P.S. I just realized, this new sleeping might have something to do with us feeling relieved and good about the Infant Developmental Specialist who came to our home and gave us the thumbs up on our progress so far! :) We rule.

Copy on the back of the postcard:

In the blue corner, weighing in at 2 lbs 5 oz… COOPER “BLU BOMBER” BLU

In the red corner, weighing in at 2 lbs 8 oz… Quinn “MAD DOG Q” MALCOM

Both undefeated contenders are now home training for a great life.

We welcome these two little champs to our family.

Chris and Terra Carmichael (and Bernie!)

**Special thanks to Victoria for designing them exactly like we wanted… she rocks.**

Note: needless to say, both boys have moved up significantly in weightclass.

If we keep growing as fast as we have in the last 5 months, we are going to be as tall as the Empire State Building by the time we are 72! (Stats: we are 5 months old/2 months adjusted age and over 13 lbs of steel)

So, our parents have known from the start that we are very different from each other, but they are just now figuring out HOW different we are.

On Smiles: Cooper will give smiles out for absolutely no reason (in contrast with Quinn who is a little more selective regarding what deserves a smile – but when he does, boy is it bright).

On Being Held: We both love to be held, but Cooper ONLY likes to be held. Quinn is showing some serious independence.

On Tempers/Patience: Cooper is patient, but persistent – if he wants another ounce, he will not stop until he gets it. Quinn has absolutely no patience and goes from 0 to 60 in about 10 seconds.

On Looks: Quinn has a lot of dark hair, and Cooper has a little of blond hair. Quinn is dark and Cooper is translucent Both of us have blue eyes (for now).

On Bathroom breaks: When Cooper goes, it’s usually when we are in the middle of changing him; perhaps demonstrating good timing. When Quinn goes, it usually comes OUT of the diaper, perhaps demonstrating that he’s his father’s son. (kidding!)

On eating: Quinn eats a lot, but takes his time; Cooper slams his bottle in about 2.2 seconds. (We are both still on medication for reflux, but the spitting up and the fussing is getting a LOT better)

On sleeping: Quinn grunts all night long and Cooper sleeps peacefully until he is awoken by Quinn. The good news is that we are trying to take it easy on our parents at night – giving them 4-5 hour stretches of sleep. They feel so good about it that they only have Anna (night nurse) coming twice a week now instead of three times!

So, as you can see, we look and act very differently (and boy do people love to comment on how different we look when we are out!). Speaking of being out – we are a real spectacle walking down the streets of San Francisco with Bernie. Mom and dad had enough people stopping them in the street to talk about Bernie – and now that they have us, it takes about 20 minutes to go each block. And if mom had a $1 for everytime someone said, “Boy, do you have your hands full,” she’d be a gazillionaire.

We are still getting out a lot… going to the beach, walking up and down the SF hills, and just plain having fun in this beautiful weather. And we’re going to Carmel/Monterey this weekend to hang with dad’s good friend (Josh Temple) and his family. Should be a blast!

Great news! Mom and dad hired a nanny for us. Her name is Regina and she’s from Brazil. She speaks English well, but mom and dad have asked her to primarily speak Portuguese to us! She’s perfect and starts on October 17. This gives her some time to hang with mom so she can see how mom and dad take care of us, then she’s on her own starting Nov 1 when mom goes back to work.

We’ve had a couple great visitors recently! Grannie Annie (dad’s aunt) was here for 2 weeks from Augusta, GA. What a treat that was to get to know her. We also got another visit from Aunt Jackie recently. Grammy comes to visit often, and Aunt Lauren and Uncle Chancey are right down the street, so we get to be around family all the time! Mindy (mom’s good friend) is coming in a couple weeks from Florida to meet us and help take care of us, so that will be really fun! We’re sad we won’t be meeting Jake and Colin (her sons) on this trip, but we can say “Hi” to the baby girl in her belly. :)

So, all is great and life is grand. Please come visit us soon!
